Imports of textile raw materials turn negative in January


Deteriorating conditions in exports from the textile and clothing sector, is beginning to show its effects on the imports of raw materials from the sector. Imports for most of the raw materials is facing only one direction; southwards in January 2009.

Imports of textile synthetic fibres touched 20,000 tons compared to 30,000 tons over the same period in 2008, down 43 percent, while imports of synthetic fibre yarn totaled 27,148 tons compared to 49,670 tons, down 45.3 percent year-on-year.

China’s January imports of polyester slices reached 11,404 tons compared to 12,240 tons over the same period in 2008, a decline of 6.8 percent y-o-y while ABS resin imports registered 106,399 tons compared to 173,487, a fall of 38.7 percent.
