In order to strengthen its global competitiveness, it has transferred production of general-purpose textile products to China and Indonesia.

Now, Nisshinbo Textile Inc. is holding talks with an Indonesian company to set up a joint venture for manufacturing denim in Indonesia, the production of which is slated to begin in May 2011. However, Nisshinbo will retain the current output levels in its plant in Japan.

The joint venture will set up a vertically integrated production facility, which includes production lines for spinning denim yarn, weaving and a rope dyeing plant. A few machineries like the rope dyeing plant and weaving machineries are expected to be relocated from Nisshinbo’s existing facilities.

Fibre2fashion spoke to Masaharu Tanaka, a senior official in the denim section of Nisshinbo Textiles, who gave confirmation of the new development, but refused to divulge more details, since negotiations on setting up the joint venture have not yet been completed.

TheMagicTouch, global pioneers of the digital image transfer process for the past 20 years, announce the arrival of yet another significant milestone for the garment decoration and promotional gift industry.

Introducing the exclusive new OKI C711WT Colour-Plus White LED Printer with white toner added to the CMY colour process. This unique innovation with the new toner delivers very good opacity and therefore a very high ‘White’ factor for non-fabric hard surface applications such as folders, mugs, binders, leather and PU surface products as well as garments and textiles.

In conjunction with the release of the new printer, TheMagicTouch has upgraded their award winning WoW7.2 transfer media to seamlessly fit the new white toner technology. Now reduced to a simple 2 step process the new WoW7.5 in conjunction with the C711WT becomes the perfect, affordable, solution for all garment decoration regardless of fabric colour or type, without any cutting or weeding involved. With a minimum application temperature as low as 110°C/230°F it perfectly overcomes the potential scorching mark of a heat press on the new popular ‘high tech’ performance fabrics and garments.

“We will deliver the printer with an added value beyond the factory standard” says Jim Nicol, Managing Director of TheMagicTouch in the UK. He added “By using our unique print utility software “SpaceControl” with the C711WT enables the user to print ‘white-only’ with the click of a button. Most important, the SpaceControl software will allow total control over the white toner i.e. where and how much is printed.”

The new white toner also extends a new lease of life to existing transfer papers allowing the decoration of any colour materials, products and substrates. Now CPM papers can decorate dark colour mugs, diaries, leather, PU products, phone and gadget covers, binders and various types of folders with ‘white’ as the extra colour included in the design. New ‘white’ also extends to the tattoo paper for skin and nail decoration as well as the CL media stock for the production of stickers and decals with opaque full colour definition for the sign industry.

Indonesian Ministry of Industry has announced a reduction in the budget allocated for machine upgradation programme, which ams at enhancing the competitiveness of textile, leather and footwear industries.

Industry Ministry’s Textiles and Miscellaneous Industries Chief, Ramon Bangun, said the Ministry would cut the budget allocation for the programme by 4.6 percent from last year’s Rp 152.5 billion to Rp 145.5 billion this year.

The reduction in budget allocation followed a need for budget efficiency required to balance the delay in fuel price rise.

Mr. Ramon informed that a sum of Rp 34 billion, which is equal to 23.37 percent of the Ministry’s total budget allocation for restoration of aging industrial machinery, has been released to 32 companies by May 2012.

The Ministry originally sanctioned the aid for 100 firms, but so far it has disbursed the amount only to 32 firms, he added.

Mr. Ramon said the Ministry was also assessing another 18 firms for the programme, and added that more than 173 firms were asked to benefit from the programme this year.

SGS has announced the opening of its new premises in Cairo offering a complete suite of facilities and services, enhanced in capacity and capability, for the testing of textile and leather goods. The relocated testing laboratory is able to serve clients in local and international regions who are seeking access to the Egyptian textile market.

With significant increases of textile exports and the newly enforced inspection certificate requirement for imported textile and leather products, the demand for consumer product testing services has been rising in Egypt. SGS has relocated its existing Egyptian textile testing laboratory, founded in 1996, and is now able to provide textile testing solutions which will satisfy this need.

The Egyptian textile industry is an attractive business proposition and its proximity to European markets gives manufacturers a logistical advantage. With low-capital cost and a high-labor intensive industry, serviced by a ready workforce, there is strong potential in the local consumer markets and the further area of exports.

Egypt has seen a substantial increase in its textile product exports with values in 2010 reaching nearly 0.3 million US dollars. With export values of textile products reaching record numbers, exports increased 52% compared to the same first six month period of the previous year.

The market leader for filament systems is exhibiting its twelve-thread WINGS for polyamide 6 for the first time and setting new standards in processing the demanding polymer to produce good yarn grades. To prevail against the strong competition from China and India, Turkish filament yarn manufacturers are focusing increasingly on high-quality yarns for the carpet and automotive sectors. One information highlight for the traditionally strong Turkish texturing market is the ITMA innovation eAFK, an automatic texturing machine, along with its manual sibling eFK. The market leader for artificial turf filament systems is also showing its latest development for artificial sports turf: MoisTurf is the name of the equipment for producing hydrophilic monofilaments. Such yarns are used as artificial turf preferably in contact sports and ensure that water is distributed evenly and almost naturally on the yarn surface.
French machinery manufacturers have been actively preparing ITM 2012 which is taking place in Istanbul, April 21-24. They are used to come to ITM and, more generally, to Turkey which they consider a strategic market. Their latest regional collective action took place last October 2010 in Gaziantep (Turkey) and Alepo (Syria) where they organized two conferences, in Gaziantep mainly focused on the carpet industry which is so important in this fast growing city of Eastern Turkey.

For Evelyne CHOLET, the French Textile Machinery Manufacturers Association’s (UCMTF) Secretary General, “next ITM will be a major opportunity to meet once more our customers, communicate, at the highest level, about their needs to compete successfully on the ever changing global market, to introduce must-have new products, to have highly reliable, low cost and eco-friendly processes”.
The collective, highly visible, actions are in addition to each company permanent organization, through local agents and offices.

At a recent road show in Ahmedabad, to promote ITMA Asia + CITME 2012, fibre2fashion caught up with Mr Zhao Xiaogang – Director, China Textile Machinery Association (CTMA) and the Indian representative of the event – Mr Sooraj Dhawan.

CTMA which is the co-host of ITMA Asia + CITME 2012 will be held from June 12 to 16, 2012 in Shanghai and will have around 1,400 textile machinery exhibitors, up from 1,300 in 2010, with the number of visitors expected to cross the 100,000 mark.

“India sends the largest contingent of visitors among all countries to ITMA shows, which was clearly visible even at ITMA 2011 in Barcelona”, Mr Dhawan said.

Mr Zhao said, “The Chinese textile machinery producers are gung-ho on the Indian market and are looking for joint-venture partners in India to set up textile machinery manufacturing plants in India”.

“I would sincerely advise all Indian textile machinery exhibitors participating in the event to put up posters, preferably in the Chinese language indicating that they are open for tying up with Chinese machinery manufacturers”, Mr Dhawan added.
Ltd. (CTMTC), one of the largest Chinese textile machinery producer, importer and exporter, has yesterday concluded feasibility studies to set up a production base in Gujarat – India.

Mr. Wu Xiuhua, Vice President of CTMTC, who had earlier visited Gujarat with an official delegation from CTMTC in November, confirmed the same to fibre2fashion.

Fibre2fashion had earlier reported in November 2011 that the officials from CTMTC were on a visit to Gujarat and had also met the Chief Minister of Gujarat – Mr Narendra Modi and senior officials of the Industry Ministry.

“Our technical team recently visited Gujarat and has completed the feasibility studies including scouring for potential sites. They will present their report at our head office after which we will take the final decision, sometime around June 2012”, he added.

He said it was too preliminary when quizzed about the investment and the type of machinery they will manufacture.

When asked the reason for selecting India and Gujarat in particular, he said, “India has the second biggest textile industry in the world and the sector is also growing, which presents a very good opportunity for us.
Orders for Italian textile machinery manufacturers were on the rise again during the last quarter of 2011 after two quarters of fall down. The results were gathered by the quarterly survey conducted by The Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT).

Overall orders for the period from October to December 2011 rose up 28% over the previous quarter, at a value of 90.2 points. The most significant increase regarded orders in foreign markets (+32%), whereas on the domestic market orders were up 15%.
“We’re still far from the levels achieved in 2010,” comments Sandro Salmoiraghi, President of ACIMIT, “but this recovery, compared to the mid months of 2011, confirms the dynamic nature of our manufacturers.”

“Despite the current difficult conditions in global markets,” Salmoiraghi says “our manufacturers have managed to catch the business opportunities available in major foreign markets, especially China, Turkey and India, as well as the United States and Brazil.”

The situation on the domestic market remains more difficult to resolve, however. The revival in investments recorded over the past three months is certainly a positive sign, but the gap remains large with current trends abroad.

The expectations of Italian machinery manufacturers for the first quarter of 2012 remain cautious, above all regarding the domestic market. “Economic uncertainty, combined with increased difficulties due to the danger of a credit crunch, are stopping investments of our Italian customers,” ACIMIT’s President concludes.
Westcoast Wools has recently installed a four-tube Jetco automatic wool coring machine, the first and only WA wool testing site outside the Perth metropolitan area.

The purchase of the machine costing more than Au$ 60,000 is expected to prove beneficial for woolgrowers in the South West, as they can now get their wool tested at Katanning, without a need to drive all the way to Perth.

The machine was in great demand and several buyers were in pursuit of the same following its limited availability. After fall of the wool industry, these machines are now produced only in South Australia and that too in limited quantity.

Like other companies, Westcoast Wools was also in quest for this machine for the past two years, particularly for the reason that now there is only one firm producing the same in the entire eastern region.

Previously too, Westcoast Wools had a wool coring machine at Katanning, but the same is now in need of revamping. For this reason, the company discontinued coring at Katanning, which compelled it to take all wool to Fremantle.

Though the process did not consume more time, it strained the Fremantle warehouse. Now, the company believes that installation of the new machine at Katanning would ease some of these issues and also help in offering reduced cost benefits to farmers.

The new installation is believed to help the Great Southern woolgrowers to save at least Au$ 10 to Au$ 12 per bale in freight charges by trucking wool to Katanning instead of Perth.
