The importance of quality control in yarn manufacturing is magnified when the end-use is a high-cost product such as the currently-popular denim jeans with slub yarns. For these latest-fashion garments, the yarns must appear irregular, yet retain precise and consistent control over quality - which means fewer complaints and ultimately more profit.
USTER® - the world-leading supplier of total quality solutions from fiber to fabric - has tackled this requirement with the launch of a novel system which analyses slub yarn quality. The new USTER® Fancy Yarn Profile for the renowned USTER® TESTER 5 uses a unique measuring method which makes it easier than ever before to obtain all the quality-relevant information for slub yarns, while maintaining the high standards of precision and reliability for which the USTER® TESTER family is acknowledged.
Brilliant testing - superior analysis
For years the USTER® TESTER has been synonymous with quality management in staple yarns, rovings and slivers. The new USTER® TESTER 5-S800 measures the most important quality parameters - such as evenness and yarn imperfections - with high precision at an unbelievable testing speed of 800 m/min. Doubling the previously-attainable test speed to 800 m/min also allows the sample throughput to be almost doubled as well. The customer can use this additional test capacity either to test all spinning positions more quickly, or to test the same number of samples with a longer test length, giving statistically more significant results. Even at this tremendous speed, the S800 enables reproducible measurements at all time.
FM Sensor - classification of foreign fibers
Foreign fibers are now one of the major problems in spinning mills. Here the USTER® TESTER 5-S800 writes a new chapter in measuring technology. The system detects and classifies foreign fibers in the same operation as all the other quality parameters. If cops contaminated with foreign fibers are tested in the laboratory, any foreign matter problem will show up within only few kilometers of yarn. With the FM Sensor, the USTER® TESTER 5-S800 offers the most comprehensive quality control there has ever been.
Unique sensor technology - gives the advantages
Factors such as hairiness, diameter variation, shape and density - as well as soiling caused by trash and dust - influence the quality of yarns in woven and knitted fabrics. In most cases, a single measurement technology alone is not sufficient to judge yarn quality. Only by combining a number of different sensor technologies can the full quality picture be assessed. Using both capacitive and optical sensors, the USTER® TESTER 5-S800 measures all the necessary criteria and offers an optimal analysis of both yarn quality and the spinning process. Yarn manufacturers and yarn finishers profit from the unique USTER® TESTER measurements, which are recognized as an international quality criterion.
