Malhas Sonix takes new Montex in expansion programme

A Monforts Montex stenter has been installed as part of an expansion programme, by Portugal’s Malhas Sonix following its takeover, to meet added production in new vertical integration.

Malhas Sonix renown since 1966 for its knitwear confectionary, weaving and dyeing for shirts, t-shirts and own brand underwear was recently taken over by the Portuguese Diastêxtil Group.

A confectionary and knitting company Diastêxtil was seeking to diversify with more vertical integration to provide quicker response times for its customers and guaranteed quality control.

Diastêxtil had been formed in 1984 by its president Mrs Conceição Dias and operated as a subcontractor until 1989. Continued investment in new equipment saw production increase to 20,000 pieces / week in 1994 and almost double between 2000 – 2005 to 4.5 million pieces / year.

Rieter Textile Systems: massive decline in orders received

The Rieter Group reported a considerably weaker trend of business in the first half of 2008 than in the very strong equivalent period of the previous year.

The pronounced slowdown in the Asian textile machinery markets, the decline in vehicle production in North America and the massive increases in the cost of raw materials, energy and transportation had a negative impact on orders received, sales and profits in the first six months.

Rieter could not escape the effects of the cyclical downturn in the textile machinery and automotive markets, which is expected to affect the global economy in general.

However, Rieter was able to maintain its strong market position by virtue of its strong brand, good products, global presence and committed workforce.

Mainly as a consequence of the steep decline in demand at the Textile Systems Division, orders received by the group were 32 % lower at 1559.3 million CHF.

Textiles Industry achieves 16% growth rate

The Investments in the textiles sector are expected to reach Rs. 1,50,600 crore by 2012 and this enhanced investment will generate 17.37 million new jobs in the textiles sector.

Addressing at a function in Kolkata after releasing the booklet tilted “Indian Textiles- The Sunrise Sector, highlighting the achievements of Textiles Sector during the four year tenure of the Government, The Minister for Textiles, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela said that the Indian textiles industry is in a stronger position than it was in the last six decades due to sagacious guidance provided by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister.

The industry which was growing at 3-4 percent during the last six decades has now accelerated to an annual growth rate of 16 percent in value terms and will reach the level of US $ 115 billion (exports US $ 55 billion; domestic market US $ 60 billion) by 2012.
