Increasing the output of Rieter E 7/5 and E 7/5A combers

Production bottlenecks in combing operations can be avoided - by the systematic conversion of existing machines. Find out more about the advantages of the conversion kit for the E 7/5 and E 7/5A combers. These conversion kits are quickly delivered and have an immediate impact on output.

The E 7/5 and E 7/5A generations of combers have reliably done their job day after day for many years. The production potential of these combers can be exploited to the full by this conversion, which enables nip rates to be increased from 250 nips/min. to a maximum of 350 nips/min. Numerous customers have made this conversion in recent years. They report positive results - higher production volumes and improved quality values of the combed sliver.

Original technology components make it possible

The conversion kit consists of several modules. Rieter technology components interact ideally - only in this way can increased output and enhanced quality be achieved. The high-performance nipper, the circular comb and the top comb - these are the 3 essential technology elements in this conversion kit. A new main motor enables nip rates to be increased...

Textile Machinery Sector Faces Economic Context

Following several quarters of sustained recovery compared to the minimum levels recorded during the two-year period from 2008-09, Italy’s textile machinery industry has seen a slowdown in new orders.

This downturn, already apparent in the year’s second quarter, was stressed during the summer period from July to September, as illustrated by the economic survey conducted by Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers - ACIMIT’s research department.

The overall index of orders for the year’s third quarter shows a 45% decrease compared to the previous period, stopping at a value of 70.8 points. The greatest drop was recorded for exports, where the index registered 75.3 points (-46%). On the domestic market, orders fell by 39%, for a value of 60.4 points.

The economic context will remain uncertain over the coming months. Economic growth at a global level is slackening off, and this is also occurring in emerging markets with a greater demand for textile machinery. For both the domestic and export markets, the majority of manufacturers estimate that the fourth quarter of 2011 will, on the whole, bring in a stable flow of orders, compared to the three previous months.

However, regarding export markets, and in spite of the positive signs at the recent ITMA trade fair, the percentage of companies forecasting increased orders is greater than those which foresee increases in the domestic market (34% compared to 13%).

ACIMIT (the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers) is a private non-profit making body and its main purpose consists in promoting the Italian textile machinery sector and in supporting its activity, mainly abroad, through the most updated and innovative promotional means, constantly improved during its more than 60 years of life.

Accuquilt Launches New Line of Whimsical Quilting Die Designs

AccuQuilt, the leader in fabric cutting solutions for quilting and fabric crafts, announced a new line of whimsical quilting die designs for the company’s GO! and GO! Baby Fabric Cutters. The highly creative designs on the dies were created by the industry’s most influential and inspired designers.

"There is something special about these designs. They were created by professionals who have been in the quilting design business for years and are known for their unique touch," said AccuQuilt Global Sales Manager, Linda Pumphrey. "Now it’s possible for quilters at all skill levels to use their GO! and GO! Baby fabric cutters to work on the same pieces these famous quilters feel a special connection to. It’s like a gift from them to us!" Pumphrey said the designers were given the freedom to submit designs they’ve always wanted to create in a die, with final approval being provided by AccuQuilt market experts.

The new designs and designers include the following:

• GO! Eagle by Eleanor Burns
• GO! Folk Art Fowl by Bill Kerr
• GO! Rose of Sharon #2 by Sharon Pederson
• GO! Fantasy Flowers by Robbi Joy Eklow
• GO! Kay’s Basket by Laura Wasilowski
• GO! Home and GO! Ring of Oak by Stacy Michell
• GO! Grapes of Wrath and GO! Pomegranate by Alex Anderson
• GO! Bohemia #1 and GO! Bohemia #2 by Ricky Tims

The designers chosen to create the new designs list versatility, creativity and usability as the main reasons they like working with GO! dies and fabric cutters.

Robbi Joy Eklow: "It's so much fun to be able to literally crank out a bunch of petal shapes and then play with them to make fused quilt designs. The shapes left behind are interesting too. I've been sorting them into a shoebox and I have a ton of them. I could never cut those quilt spirals with enough detail with a scissors. I like that so many of the AccuQuilt appliqué dies will work with "my style" to create fused quilts."

ITMA - A Great Success for Shima Seiki

Despite having fewer exhibitors and a fewer number of visitors than the previous show in Münich four years ago, the 2011 edition of the International Exhibition of Textile Machinery (ITMA 2011) in Barcelona ended with results that far exceeded expectations for Shima Seiki.

Considering the current global economy and the fact that an overwhelming majority of textile production is located in China, the venue location of Barcelona, Spain did not offer consolation for concerns initially raised regarding cost-effectiveness of exhibiting at ITMA.

Despite these seemingly unfavorable conditions, Shima Seiki, having strong interests remaining in Europe including Spain and other markets outside of East Asia, elected to exhibit, not to cater to any specific market, but to pay homage to the traditions of ITMA as a showcase for new technology.

With "Solutions for Diversity" as its exhibit theme, Shima Seiki presented a range of products that reflected the dichotomy of the flat knitting machine market. Anticipating the ITMA visitor profile to include both high-volume export-oriented factories as well as manufacturers catering to local consumer markets, Shima exhibited a balanced cross-section of its entire lineup in both shaping and WHOLEGARMENT applications.

Moreover, Shima Seiki took the opportunity to demonstrate its role as leading innovator by unveiling an impressive number of first-time exhibits in the form of new models, gauges and prototypes. In fact, of the 13 models exhibited, 11 were new exhibits.

Some noteworthy developments included the world's first flat knitting machine capable of shaping in 21 gauge, and a V-bed prototype machine equipped with two additional loop presser beds. All this was in sharp contrast with the rest of the exhibitors in the flat knitting sector, some of whom were first-time participants, but whose stands were essentially devoid of new technology.
