The user-friendly features in today’s computerized machines allow beginners to become a designer with the push of a button. Customizing existing apparel, accessories and home décor items with embroidery is much easier to do for some beginners than the skilled, sometimes complicated, steps of garment construction.
“Advancements in technology over the years have allowed us to enhance the features of our computerized sewing and embroidery machines making it easier than ever to achieve professional results and create customized designs,” explained Dean F. Shulman, senior vice president of Brother International Corporation and head of the company’s home appliance division. “The ability to quickly, easily, and professionally personalize apparel, home décor and accessories is possible with all of our embroidery machines.”

The most advanced embroidery machine from Brother, the Entrepreneur PR-650, has automatic color changing on the six-needles of the machine. This feature allows for pre-programming of a thread color sequence for an entire design. Another time-saving feature is the automatic thread trimmer which means no time consuming trimming after the embroidery is complete.

The opportunities for personalization and customization with embroidery are endless from caps and bags for local sports teams, and shirts and uniforms for businesses, to monogrammed baby blankets, bibs and diaper bags. Plus, it’s easy to add character to projects with exclusive licensed embroidery designs featuring popular Disney, Disney/Pixar, Nickelodeon, and Warner Bros. and DC Comics characters. With a Brother embroidery machine, crafters can have access to popular designs featuring characters such as: Mickey Mouse, Disney Princesses, Winnie the Pooh™, “Cars,” “The Incredibles”, “Toy Story”, “Finding Nemo”, “Monsters, Inc.”, Blue’s Clues™, Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob Square Pants, “BATMAN”, “SUPERMAN”, “SUPERGIRL”, “Scooby-Doo” and “Looney Tunes.”

SPESA President pleased with prior exhibit sales mark

The Sewn Products Equipment & Suppliers of the Americas (SPESA) is pleased to announce that, with more than 3 months remaining before the event, booth sales for its May 18-20 SPESA EXPO in Atlanta, Georgia have already surpassed the total exhibit space occupied in the previous edition of the triennial event which was held in Miami Beach.

Driving the increase in floor space is the addition of several new exhibit categories for 2010, including fabrics and materials, trims and components, product development services, production and supply chain services, and information technology (IT). The historically strong SPESA EXPO machinery and equipment categories are returning en masse for the 2010 edition.

Also factoring into the expansion are a number of new special attractions including the first-ever Made in USA Supply Chain, Supply Chain of the Americas, and IT Showcase show components; as well as the updated Cool Zone v2.0 and numerous country and regional pavilions from Latin America, Asia, and Europe.

The trade group also reported that attendee registration, which recently opened online, is very strong; tracking ahead of the numbers achieved at similar intervals prior to the 2007 event. ‘Textile & Sewn Products Industry Week’ co-location partners and prominent textile industry events ATME-I/MEGATEX and TECHTEXTIL NORTH AMERICA are also reporting similar advance attendee results.

Five star rating for Oerlikon Systems

Oerlikon Systems was awarded a ‘five star rating’ for 2009 by VLSI Research, joining a select group of semiconductor equipment manufacturers that achieve five out of five stars with exceptional customer satisfaction. This further confirms the company’s technical leadership and its commitment to strict ISO standards for quality management and sustainable manufacturing processes.

“A five star rating is only given to companies with superior equipment performance and transparent organizational performance,” explains Andreas Dill, Head of Oerlikon Systems. “It’s notable that only 13 names gained five stars in 2009; these companies represent the top performers in the global semiconductor equipment market.”

The five star ratings are handed out by chip equipment users (representing 95% of the world’s semiconductor market) and compiled by VLSI Research as part of their 2009 Customer Satisfaction Report. The rating is based on thirteen categories including cost of ownership, quality of results, product performance, customer service, technical leadership, and commitment.

“The five star rating from VLSI also confirms our unwavering commitment to the ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental) standards,” adds Andreas Dill. “We continue to be very committed to the development of more sustainable production solutions by reducing both the direct and indirect impact of our business operations and products on the environment.”

Oerlikon Systems was certified ‘without discrepancy’ in an ISO audit of its Liechtenstein, Germany, and U.S. facilities in October 2009. The rapid ISO certification is a key industry benchmark; strict adherence to high levels of quality and reliability are vital for the success of the production solutions developed and marketed by Oerlikon Systems.

New Spectro LFP Tex for textile & fabric printing market

BARBIERI electronic is proud to announce Spectro LFP Tex the new spectrophotometer dedicated to the textile and fabric printing market.

The digital textile and fabric printing market has some very special needs which especially measuring devices is concerned. Due to the characteristics of the surface and the textile itself "standard" color measuring devices are not able to deliver accurate readings.

BARBIERI electronic now offers a dedicated spectrophotometer for this market - the Spectro LFP Tex which in fact is a special edition of the market leading Spectro LFP. The feature that makes the Spectro LFP Tex unique is his large measuring aperture of 8mm which is fundamental to measure textiles. Thanks to this large aperture textured surfaces of textiles and fabrics will be optically averaged and therefore the right color impression determined.

For easy mounting of the textile for measuring, a special sample holder will be delivered together with the measuring device. This holder prevents distortions and slipping during the whole automatic measuring process. As a result measurements of textiles will be done fully automatically and most accurate.

An upgrade to the worldwide unique automatic transmissive measurement feature for the Spectro LFP Tex is also available.

The Spectro LFP Tex will be available as from March 1, 2010 and will be shown for the first time at TV TecStyle Visions (February 4 – 6, 2010, Stuttgart Germany) in Hall 1 booth F74 exclusively by Complott Papier Union GmbH.

Global economic crisis hurts Rieter Textile Systems biz

Between 2007 and the business year 2009 the Rieter Group had to absorb a drastic slump in sales amounting to 1 973.8 million CHF, equivalent to a decline of some 50%, as a result of the global economic crisis. However, the group successfully defended its strong market position in the textile machinery and automotive supply businesses. A slight recovery on the markets was apparent for the first time in the second half of 2009, enabling Rieter to record increases of 30% in orders received and 17% in sales during this period compared with the first half of the year.

Orders received and Sales 2009
The Rieter Group was severely affected by the impact of the economic and financial crisis in the 2009 financial year. The unfavorable market conditions adversely influenced the trend of business at both divisions. The slump in demand that had already severely impacted 2008 continued until the spring of 2009; a slight recovery in the markets became apparent in the second half of the year. Rieter believes that activity in both sectors in which the group operates bottomed out before mid-2009.

Orders received by the Rieter Group in the 2009 financial year declined by 24% (21% in local currencies) to 1935.1 million CHF. Order intake in the second half of 2009 was 9% higher than in the same period of the previous year and 30% higher than in the first half of 2009. This positive trend was attributable to a significant increase in orders received by both divisions. Over the year as a whole group sales declined more steeply than orders received, to 1 956.3 million CHF, a reduction of 38% (35% in local currencies). In the second half of 2009 this figure was 21% lower than in the same period of the previous year and 17% higher than in the first half of 2009.

Textile Systems: 69% increase in orders received in the second half of the year
The world market for textile machinery, which had already been weakening since the fourth quarter of 2007, suffered a massive slump as of March 2008, and this bottomed out in the first quarter of 2009. There were structural and cyclical reasons for this downturn. On the one hand it marked the end of an investment boom to expand spinning capacity that had been fueled additionally in many markets by government stimulus programs. On the other hand the consequences of the economic and financial crisis had further reinforced the downswing. These resulted in a decline in textile consumption in the US and Europe and high yarn inventories in spinning mills worldwide. The rather better performance of the domestic markets in China and India was insufficient to offset this trend.
