Inkjet Technologies to bring new products for technical textiles sector

June 30, 2008 (Netherlands)
In January 2008 TenCate acquired 75% of the shares of Xennia Technology Ltd near Cambridge (UK).

The main reason for this acquisition is primarily to accelerate the opportunity to use inkjet technology to produce technical textiles.

Inkjet technology has the potential to replace existing finishing and coating technologies and create new materials for the technical textiles sector.

Within the Digitex R&D project, which is subsidized by the EU Commission, TenCate, Xennia, Xaar and other companies and institutes have worked together in order to use inkjet technology to create breakthrough innovations in technical textiles for the European sector.

A number of important inkjet developments carried out by Xennia in recent years have also generated valuable applications in other industrial sectors like product decoration, packaging, material deposition and specialist printing.

Inkjet deposition of functional materials is a key area for Xennia's business and is expected to grow strongly over the next few years.

Textile machinery sector faces competition through innovation

June 27, 2008 (Italy)

The sixth edition of ACIMIT Osservatorio, the survey on the economical and financial trend of Italian manufacturers of textile machinery, was presented at the general assembly of ACIMIT, the Italian Association of Textile Machinery Manufacturers on June 24 in Milan.

The world outlook of the global textile machinery industry, outlined in the study, illustrates a rather poor pace in terms of trade. Textile machinery manufacturers from the Far East are the group which have managed to increase their market share most considerably in recent years, particularly those based in China.

In fact, in addition to representing by far the main market for the industry, China is also the world’s fifth exporter of textile machinery, right behind Germany, Japan, Italy and Switzerland. Albeit in the lower bracket of the product range, Asian machinery manufacturers have proven highly competitive, especially in Asian markets, where the demand for technologically advanced machinery is still limited.

Dilo to focus on new Hyperlacing technology at ITMA+CITME

June 26, 2008 (Germany)
At the forthcoming joint exhibition of ITMA Asia and CITME in Shanghai the DiloGroup will exhibit mechanical components and textile samples from the Dilo Textile Research Centres to provide information about complete line installations comprising machines for bale opening and blending from DiloTemafa, carding or aerodynamic web forming from DiloSpinnbau, crosslapping and needling from DiloMachines.

This first combined exhibition, "ITMA ASIA + CITME 2008" will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai from 27 to 31 July 2008.

In addition to needling other bonding technologies such as water entangling, thermo and chemical bonding are available from DiloSystems in close co-operation with well-known leading partners. Therefore, the full range of web forming and consolidation technologies is offered for complete line installations worldwide.

At our booth No. B05 in hall No. W4 we will provide general information about all kind of nonwovens. Focus will be laid on the new Hyperlacing technology first presented at the ITMA 07 show in Munich and on geotextiles which enjoy a continuing demand worldwide.

Hyperlacing is realized by the newly developed Cyclopunch units with approx. 20.000 needles/m/board. The needle barb is adapted to the fibre fineness in order to transport only one single fibre per stroke. A new kinematics moves the needle on a circular path resulting in an increase of throughput speed to more than 100 m/min. The Hyperlacing process allows production of light-weight felts made from fine fibres at an area weight as low as approx. 30 g/m² with high throughput speeds. These products are used in the fields of medicine, hygiene, synthetic leather, interlinings and filter media.

Sewing & Embroidery Machinery Online Expo ‘08

June 26, 2008 (Global)
The Sewing & Embroidery Machinery Online Expo ’08 (SEM) promises to be the first time ever, online exhibition on such a big-scale industry-specific platform – www.fibre2fashion.com. Here are some good updates for the beneficiaries about the current status of the event as measured by the response from visitors and enthusiasm of exhibitors. Well, visitors who can be identified as the potential machinery buyers have long-since begun to raise their specific inquiries.

“We are curiously awaiting the launch of the event and it to be online thereafter”, they’ve expressed to fibre2fashion’s project executives who have been constantly busy handling the massive flow of buying enquiries. The flow is still on, and looking at the current tempo, there are negligible chances of any reduction on that front.

Not just that, SEM ‘08 has received grand acclamation from international associations even before its launch, just by looking at the strong potentials attached to it. The associations are –

• All Nippon Special Sewing Machinery Manufacturers Association Japan (ANSMA)
• Garment Machinery Manufacturers and Suppliers Associations (GMMSA)
• The Sewing Machinery Dealers and Assemblers’ Associations

Exporters let down by budget 2008-09 - BTMA

June 18, 2008 (Bangladesh)

The 14.58 billion budget for fiscal 2008-09 received mixed reaction from the industrial sector and those coming from the textile industry were not any different.

When Fibre2fashion approached Mr Towfique Hassan, Secretary General from Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), he candidly stated that the budget is investment and industry friendly but not really export-friendly.

Mr Hassan asserted, “Reduction of duty on import of capital machinery under indemnity bond and introduction of 1 percent import duty will reduce hassles, but it is bound to increase project costs since textile industry is very much capital intensive. This will in turn affect the competitiveness of domestic exports.”

Besides reduction in duty to 3 percent will have little impact in the overall performance of the industry. On the other hand, continuation of tax holiday till 2011 will encourage investment but reduction of period in phases will not yield the desired results.

On the positive side, Mr Hassan welcomed the increase in subsidy as it will not only boost confidence in the sphere of business but will also improve productivity. Additionally, complete withdrawal of turnover tax scheme was also highly applauded by the textile industry.

TV Textilveredlung to be staged in Stuttgart in Feb 2010

June 09, 2008 (Germany)
An extensive exhibitor survey has now confirmed the indications that were apparent when TV, International Trade Fair for Textile Finishing and Promotion, was last held in Stuttgart: the majority of exhibitors and the exhibitor advisory panel are in favour of a change in the day sequence.

The Sunday, which no longer attracts so many visitors, will therefore be dispensed with at the next event, which means that the trade fair will commence one day earlier than in the past. TV Textilveredlung & Promotion will therefore next be staged in Stuttgart from Thursday, 4 to Saturday, 6 February 2010.

The opening time on the last day will be extended by one hour so that proprietors of smaller companies will also have an opportunity to visit the trade fair without having to close their business. Textile printers, transfer printers, digital printers, flockers, embroiderers and experts from the textile areas of promotion and merchandising will therefore be able to obtain information on the latest products and services in their industries on all three days of TV from 09.00 to 18.00.

Beaulieu to halt production at Wickham spinning plant

June 07, 2008 (Canada)
Beaulieu Canada announced to its employees that it will be suspending production at its spinning plant in Wickham (located in Centre-du-Québec).

The company's decision will be effective as of July 26, 2008 and will affect the plant's eight management staff, the 69 unionized employees currently working at the plant and the 110 unionized employees who have been on the recall list for two years or less.

Beaulieu Canada's Wickham plant produces yarn used mainly to manufacture carpets for the new housing construction market in Canada.

The company's decision was necessary due to overcapacity at its Wickham plant. Since 2005, orders for spun yarns had reduced significantly.

This reduction combined with a stronger Canadian dollar and having to sustain higher wages has led to uncompetitive conversion costs. The type of yarns made at the Wickham facility will now be sourced from a related plant in the U.S.

Beaulieu Canada is seeking a buyer for the Wickham building and the plant's equipment. In the meantime, the company will continue to perform full interior and exterior maintenance at the plant.

ITMA ASIA + CITME to welcome large numbers of visitors

June 06, 2008 (China)
Visitors and exhibitors planning to attend the ITMA ASIA + CITME 2008 exhibition are being urged to apply for their visa without delay.

Most foreign nationals will need a visa to enter China for the show, which is being held in Shanghai from July 27 to 31.

Show officials are warning that the Olympic Games, in Beijing from August 8 to 24, is already causing a backlog of visa applications in Chinese embassies around the world – so it will take longer than usual to process and validate requests.

With 100,000 visitors expected at ITMA ASIA + CITME 2008 – including a large proportion of both exhibitors and visitors from outside China – the need for visa applications to be submitted urgently is strongly recommended by the organisers.

ITMA ASIA + CITME is jointly owned by the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers CEMATEX and a Chinese consortium made up of CCPIT (Sub-council of Textile Industry, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade), CTMA (China Textile Machinery Association), and CIEC (China International Exhibition Centre Group Corporation).

Textile industry require apt IT solutions for overall growth

June 02, 2008 (India)
Spirit of Gujarat in true sense is Vibrant. The region has its own strength. Nothing seems to perturb the growth of this state, be it the earthquake, riots, flood, or the price rise all over.

Gujarat has emerged as the leading industrialized state of India against all odds. Formerly known as Manchester of India for its textile industry, it houses a number of big names in the sector, to name a few are Reliance, Arvind, Chiripal, Kiri Dyes. Some multinational corporations, large private sector companies, strong public sector enterprises and a large number of medium and small scale units also have their strong bases here.

While sharing a mere five percent of Indian population, Gujarat contributes 21 percent in exports and 13 percent in the country’s industrial production.

Inspite of the fact that textile sector all over India is going through a rough phase due to hike in the prices of raw material, rupee appreciation and other few major factors, the State Government, is expecting to ink MoUs worth Rs100 billion, in the 2009 Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor's Summit, only for the textile industry.
